Cemfree’s Game Changing Green Credentials Win Prestigious CONSTRUCT Innovation Award

Date Added: 16/10/2014

Cemfree, the world’s first truly sustainable, structural concrete, has won the prestigious CONSTRUCT award for innovation, reflecting the ground-breaking potential of the new product.

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is the third highest man-made producer of CO2, and is used twice as much around the world as any other building material, creating an unsustainable industry practice that requires radical change if it is to continue.

Cemfree is a zero-cement structural concrete, which uses a by-product of other industries to provide up to a 95% reduction in CO2 compared with OPC. If Cemfree was used at capacity in the UK alone it would account for a saving of 2,100,000 tonnes of CO2 a year, which is the equivalent of taking 750,000 cars off the road.

The revolutionary product has created considerable global interest and demand is high for Cemfree in countries committed to their green agenda but determined to continue their rate of growth. David Ball, Inventor of Cemfree and Chairman of David Ball Group PLC, explains:

“Development across the globe is currently unsustainable and we need to create and adopt green solutions to tackle this issue before it is too late. Internationally, the industry response to Cemfree has been fantastic and we are committed to helping these countries secure the future of our planet for generations to come.”

CONSTRUCT is the trade association for those working in the Concrete Structures Industry, and runs its annual awards to reflect excellence and innovation within the industry.

David Ball Group PLC has ambitious plans for award-winning Cemfree and hopes the product will stimulate the development of more green solutions for the construction industry in the future.
